Senior Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor - Mining

About the role

A leading international mining house is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to establish and lead the maintenance function for a new mechanised alluvial gold mining operation in the Central African Republic. The role reports to the Senior Alluvial Mining, Processing & Equipment Superintendent and is responsible for equipment availability, plant reliability and operational readiness across the mining fleet, processing plant and power generation systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all mechanical maintenance activities across the mining operation.
• Supervise workshop personnel and multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
• Develop and implement maintenance standards, procedures, preventative and predictive programmes.
• Manage heavy mobile equipment maintenance, including excavators, wheel loaders, dump trucks, bulldozers and related systems.
• Oversee processing plant equipment such as trommels, rotary scrubbers, vibrating screens, conveyors and slurry systems.
• Maintain diesel generators, fuel and cooling systems, and electrical distribution.
• Establish workshop systems, spare‑parts inventory and vendor coordination.
• Diagnose mechanical failures, lead breakdown response and conduct root‑cause analysis.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance or a related technical discipline.
• 10–15+ years of heavy equipment maintenance experience, preferably in mining.
• Proven experience maintaining heavy earth‑moving equipment and mineral processing or wash plants.
• Experience establishing preventative maintenance systems and leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Previous remote mining project experience, preferably in Africa.
• French language skills are advantageous.

Required skills

• Maintenance of Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo, Liebherr, Hyundai and Doosan equipment.
• Expertise in hydraulic systems, gearboxes, pumps, compressors and welding/fabrication.
• Knowledge of processing plant equipment: trommels, rotary scrubbers, vibrating screens, conveyors, slurry pumps and gravity recovery equipment.
• Diesel power generation maintenance and electrical control systems.
• Use of CMMS/asset management systems for reliability engineering and spare‑parts management.
