Conservation Pilot – Aerial Patrols & Biomonitoring

About the role

The Conservation Pilot will conduct aerial patrols over the Northeastern Protected Area Complex in the Central African Republic, supporting wildlife law‑enforcement and biomonitoring operations. Based at the WCS project headquarters in Bamingui‑Bangoran National Park, the role combines aviation expertise with on‑the‑ground logistical support for conservation activities.

Key responsibilities

• Fly regular aerial patrols to monitor wildlife, detect illegal activities, and assess habitat conditions.
• Support aerial biomonitoring missions, including data collection and equipment deployment.
• Provide logistical assistance to law‑enforcement teams and project staff, including transport of personnel and supplies.
• Maintain aircraft safety standards, conduct pre‑flight checks, and coordinate routine maintenance.
• Occasionally travel internationally for aircraft maintenance, training, and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Professional pilot experience with a valid pilot licence.
• Ability to operate in remote, field‑based environments.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for maintenance and meetings.
• Strong commitment to wildlife conservation and safety‑centred operations.

Required skills

• Pilot licence and proven flight experience.
• Knowledge of aviation safety procedures and aircraft maintenance.
• Experience conducting aerial surveillance or patrol missions.
• Familiarity with biomonitoring equipment and data collection methods.
