Area Programme Manager CAR Bouar

About the role

The Area Programme Manager based in Bouar will ensure continuity of NRC’s humanitarian programmes across the Central African Republic. Reporting to the Area Manager, the role combines staff leadership, programme oversight and representation of NRC in coordination forums. It supports an integrated approach covering education, ICLA, shelter, WASH and protection.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage directly reporting staff, including performance management, recruitment, induction and staff development.
• Oversee technical quality, monitoring, evaluation and compliance of programmes in the area, ensuring donor standards and timely reporting.
• Provide high‑level oversight of needs assessments, studies and evaluations, and contribute to financing strategies and grant management.
• Coordinate with local and national authorities, partners and stakeholders, representing NRC in relevant forums.
• Develop and implement capacity‑building plans for area staff and promote the rights of IDPs and returnees.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years senior management experience in humanitarian, recovery or development contexts, with staff‑management responsibility.
• Proven experience in area management, multi‑site operations, grants management and donor compliance.
• Fluency in French and working knowledge of English.
• Knowledge of the Central African Republic context, especially western and central regions.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking and ability to work in insecure, volatile environments.
