Construction Engineer Specialist (Temporary, 6 months)

About the role

The Construction Engineer Specialist will support UNICEF's infrastructure initiatives in Bangui for a six‑month fixed‑term assignment. The role focuses on planning, designing, procuring, and monitoring construction projects that improve child‑friendly community facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the annual construction workplan, set priorities, and track performance against targets.
• Develop design and technical documents, ensuring cost‑effective solutions using local materials.
• Provide technical back‑stopping to UNICEF programme teams and government counterparts throughout project cycles.
• Support procurement processes, including preparation of terms of reference and selection criteria.
• Monitor construction activities, conduct site visits, and report progress to steering committees.
• Coordinate human and financial resources within the Construction Unit, supervise staff, and facilitate knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field.
• Proven experience in managing construction projects in challenging environments.
• Familiarity with UN procurement guidelines and government coordination.
• Ability to lead a small team, mentor staff, and ensure compliance with standards.
